Dating from the mid seventeenth century, Bindon House was built in an unusual Cape Dutch architectural style whose most prominent features are the huge curved bay windows which adorn the decorative facade. Home to the Malet family for almost 200 years, this unique property was allowed to fall into serious disrepair until in 1996 it was bought by the current owners.
Bindon House opened in 1997 as a country house hotel after some twelve months of exhausting rescue and refurbishment. Lynn and Mark Jaffa have created an outstanding rural retreat: twelve sumptuously decorated guest rooms, intimate and relaxing sitting and drawing rooms with open fires, a clubby oak-panelled library bar, and a dining room which, under head chef Patrick Robert, is attracting widespread acclaim for the imaginative excellence of its food and wines. To have taken on the task of restoring Bindon to its former glory was an extraordinarily brave decision: to have succeeded so admirably in establishing it as a top class hotel, now a member of "Pride of Britain", two years after opening is just reward for this courage.
Set adjacent to the 180 acres of Langford Heath nature reserve, Bindon offers a wide range of leisure activies, with a heated swimming pool, croquet and tennis within its walled gardens, and riding, golf, clay shooting, boating, and excellent fishing in the surrounding area.
