Castle Combe is regularly cited as the prettiest village in England. No new building has been permitted in this wooded valley at the southern edge of the Cotswolds since 1617, by which time The Manor House had already occupied its idyllic parkland setting for well over two hundred years.
Twenty six acres of woodland and landscaped garden now surround a truly exceptional hotel. Log fires and deep sofas welcome guests into the sumptuous lounges. Bedrooms are luxuriously appointed - some with four-poster beds, oak beams, and delightful views, all richly furnished with antiques. Rich wood panelling vies for attention with gleaming crystal and glittering silver in the acclaimed Bybrook Restaurant, where guests enjoy classic English country house cooking which makes extensive use of local and garden-grown produce. The Mews, charmingly converted cotswold stone cottages, stables and coach house, offer bedrooms with a special character. Archway Cottage, formerly the gatehouse to the manor, retains the original sitting room with inglenook fireplace and a stone staircase leading to the bedroom.
The Manor House also boasts a spectacular and challenging par 73 18-hole championship golf course. Designed by Peter Allis, it is already rated as one of the finest inland courses in the country, with certainly one of the most alluring settings. Croquet, tennis, and a heated swimming pool are also available, with trout fishing on a one mile stretch of the River Bybrook.
