The Swan Hotel

Hailed by William Morris as one of the Cotswolds' prettiest villages, picturesque Bibury has hardly changed since his time. The Swan Hotel, a 17th century coaching inn on the banks of the River Coln now once more under private ownership, remains its centrepiece.

When the current owner acquired The Swan it was refurbished with the clear intention of creating a distinctive English country hotel which would acknowledge the needs of the modern traveller. The accent is on unpretentious comfort: large fireplaces, a grand piano, oak panelling and sumptuous fabrics, matched by fine paintings and antiques throughout the interior. The eighteen bedrooms include four posters - all have a lavish bathroom, some with large jacuzzi baths, and fresh flowers and home made biscuits complete the setting. The elegant Signet Dining Room serves superb English menus prepared by Head Chef Shaun Naen, complemented by an excellent wine selection. Jankowski's Brasserie offers crisp, healthy traditional cooking with a modern twist in less formal surroundings.

The hotel has its own fishing rights and a moated ornamental garden encircled by a clear-running stream. Bibury itself is a splendid base from which to explore the soft yellow limestone villages of the Cotswolds, with both Westonbirt arboretum and Barnsley House gardens within easy reach.
