Ever since humans first looked skyward, they have dreamed of flying. It's been the stuff of countless myths and fairy tales, and the fascination of generations of scientists and model plane builders. For those who share this fascination, Germany is one of the countries in the avant-garde of modern aviation. We visit the EADS-aircraft factory in Finkenwerde near Hamburg.
Here, aircraft enthusiasts can observe members of the Airbus family of passenger jets being painted and going through final assembly. Our next stop is Bremen, where we have the opportunity to experience what it really feels like to fly a modern jumbo, in a Lufthansa flight simulator. Our copilot is an experienced Lufthansa trainer who guides us through the procedures that real pilots go through when flying the huge computer controlled aircraft. Finally, we experience a considerably less technical, yet breathtaking flight above the Bavarian Alps in a hot-air balloon.
