There are people in this world who only really feel alive when they have gas fumes in their noses and the clattering of antique automobile engines in their ears. We call these people Old-Timer Fans, and each year about 120 of them meet in Hamburg, driving their ancient chariots in an event called the Car Classics. It's the beginning of an old-timer rally that will take the participants through 800 kilometers of North-Germany's prettiest landscape. From Hamburg, this rolling automobile museum heads east along Mecklenburg's lovely Baltic Sea coast to the city of Wismar, where the first stage of the rally ends in the old Hanse town's medieval marketplace. The next day's destination is the Schlosshotel Klink, which lies on the bank of the River Moritz. After lunch, the old-timers make their way to an old airport, where both drivers and automobiles are put through their paces on a test track. The rally's last stop is at the Wolfsbruch marina, where the drivers trade their steering wheels in for the tillers of sailboats.
