As a destination, the East Frisian North Sea coast stands for fresh sea air, endless stretches of sandy beaches and wonderful bathing - at least that's so in summer. The sea air and the sandy beaches are still here during the winter season, of course, but instead of going bathing, you're better off going for long walks and enjoying the peace and tranquillity. The small harbour villages along the coast, from which numerous pleasure cruises and the ferries for the East Frisian islands depart in the summertime, also have plenty to offer visitors in winter. In Neuharlingersiel, for instance, you might treat yourself to a mud cure. "Local wellness" as one might say - because the raw material is found right on the doorstep: in the mudflats known as the Wattenmeer. If you are more interested in the economic and cultural foundations of East Frisia, on the other hand, you'll find much to interest you in Carolinensiel's museum harbour. Fishing and, of course, shrimp fishing used to play a major role here, significantly shaping the lives of the coastal inhabitants. Today tourism comes in first place, and the old fishing boats in the harbour are now really a sight worth seeing.
