In 1926, the Orpheum Theatre upstaged the grand Palace Theater as the fourth and final home of the famed Orpheum vaudeville circuit in Los Angeles. Influenced by the Paris Opera, Architect G. Albert Lansburgh appointed the grand interior with polished brass doors, lush brocade drapery, silk wall panels, marble pilasters and massive chandeliers. Just as impressive, were the performers who graced the OrpheumOs stage - Eddie Cantor, Sophie Tucker, Will Rogers, Jack Benny, Sally Rand, and Lena Horn, to mention just a few. Although their voices no longer fill the hall, the sounds of the original, fully restored, 13-rank, three-manual Wurlitzer organ still resonate with the spirit of this bygone era.
