Photogenic Manor Keeps Visitors Close to Portugal's
Picturesque Cascais
This Mediterranean-style mansion has been owned
by the same family for over a century. Its beautiful façade, adorned
with hand-painted tiles, draws thousands of visiting painters, architects,
and picture takers. Inside, handsomely decorated bedrooms have bas
relief stucco ceilings, and the mansion's white marble floors and
staircases are exquisite.
Situated in the center
of Cascais, this attractive manor enjoys the balmy climate of an
800-year-old fishing village, popular with several dethroned Portuguese
kings, who made it their summer getaway. Cascais keeps its old world
charm -- in the picturesque harbor area, fishermen repair handmade
nets beside their colorfully painted boats.
Trains leave Cascais every
fifteen minutes for a half-hour rail ride along Portugal's scenic
Tagus River estuary to the center of Lisbon, Portugal's capital
city. Train travel continues until 2 a.m., and the station is a
two minute walk from the manor.
Casa de Pergola takes vacation reservations from
April to December.
