Norwegian Flair Creates an Artistic Honeymoon
Hotel
This unique Norwegian
host and her very intriguing home delight guests from the moment
they walk are introduced to both. The Casa da Dama's entrance hall
sets the theme for the whole manor – it’s full of romantic touches
and intriguing ways of wandering from room to room.
The hall's high ceiling exposes roof timbers;
and tanks once used for wine making are now a special room “to lock
away the children for the night” (!!) Owner Aud Sjolie Randolf is
an artist and sculptor, and one of her life-sized “mother” figures
watches the children's guest room.
Aud uses another light airy room with long trailing
plants (common throughout the house) for wining and dining her guests.
Her home cooked meals are tempting mixtures of Norwegian and Portuguese
cuisine.
Across the lawn is a swimming pool, fed by a lazy
stream from an old olive storage bottle. Nearby is a barbecue area,
ideal for enjoying poolside tidbits while gazing across to the opposite
hillside's apple, pear, orange, and nut trees. Guests usually sample
from all of these trees during their visit.
Fortunate Location
Helps Travelers See Portugal's Most Romantic Cities
Casa da Dama is situated in Portugal's secluded
little village of Toxofal de Cima, virtually untouched by tourism.
Lourinha, its friendly sibling village, is about five minutes away,
and the blue Atlantic's beaches are ten minutes away by car. Lisbon,
Portugal's capital city, is a popular day trip destination; and
the beautiful medieval town of Obidos – the 'Wedding City' – is
the travel destination for a wedding proposal, a wedding
reception, a honeymoon, or a wedding anniversary trip.
The manor's double bedroom has a 'honeymoon suite'
with jacuzzi. Others are twin bedrooms with ensuite showers. Each
suite has a door leading to its own romantic terrace overlooking
the lawn and the valley below.
At the end of a stay, guests contribute photographs
and comments; lovingly preserved in an interesting scrapbook for
future visitors to Portugal's 'Honeymoon Hotel'.
Aud’s unique travel accommodation has been featured
on Portuguese television; and with only four rooms, reservations
are very exclusive. The honeymoon suite rate all year is 13,400
escudos per night; single rooms are 11,500 escudos per night. Rates
include breakfast for two and all taxes. Aud is a member of the
Privetur Association of Portugal.
