Viewpoint Manor Paints an Artist's Honeymoon On a Royal Canvas

"Viewpoint House" earns its name for voluptuous views of the Atlantic ocean and over Sintra's Pena Palace and Moorish castle. It was built around 1890 for a family of Portuguese army officers.

Miradouro's location close to Portugal's national palace makes it an excellent base from which to visit historic monuments of royal Sintra as well as its beautiful parks and outstanding new museum of contemporary art. Beautiful sandy beaches and spectacular Cabo da Roca – the westernmost point of Europe -- hope for honeymooners nearby.

The railway station is a 15 minute walk, and trains leave every 15 minutes for Portugal's capital city of Lisbon, about 40 miles away. Spend an evening in lively Lisbon and return as late as 2 a.m. to the peace and quiet of Sintra's cool, clean air.

Portugal's Beach Resorts are Close at Cascais and Estoril

Twin sophisticated beach resorts in Cascais and Estoril are a short distance to the south. Crowds enjoy the lively European nightlife of the casino, bars, and nightclubs. Honeymooners and other lovers dine in elegant restaurants and take romantic strolls under the stars on the promenade along the coast.

Frederic Kneubuhl, owner and host of Miradouro, is a Swiss national who speaks German, French, English, and Portuguese. He enjoys providing a very personal atmosphere and first-rate service. He serves a hearty buffet each morning in the breakfast room; and snacks and drinks are available during the day. The living room is enhanced by its beautiful stucco ceiling; Satellite television, a bar, and a fireplace are all available to guests. Romantic evenings closer to home begin on the pleasant terrace area in the lovely garden that surrounds the manor.

Casa Miradouro is usually closed in January and February.
