Portugal Serenades Late Summer Brides with
a Romantic Spectrum of Arts
Set in an 18th century manor house, the Diniz
of Vila Nova da Cerveira's honeymooning guests have total privacy
in an intimate setting. Rooms and suites have their own courtyards,
and from its ancient walls lovers embrace the magnificent view over
the Minho River. This historical pousada in northwesternmost Portugal
is about an hour from Oporto. Late summer brides and honeymooners
are serenaded by Portuguese culture -- the romantic music festival
(Paredes de Coura) and the lively Coca festival in Moncao. The Diniz
itself hosts Portugal's vibrant Arts Biennial also in August; and
in the beautiful city of Viano do Castelo nearby another regional
pousada hosts the annual Our Lady of Agonia observance on the 20th
of August.
Guests of the D. Diniz sample regional favorites
of cream of white beans soup appetizer, codfish turnovers with bean
rice or pork loin chunks with spicy sausages entrees, and creme
brule with almonds dessert.
